Dermaplane with jelly mask and LED light therapy at Cleveland

It’s no secret that smooth, glowing, youthful skin is something we all covet.

The global skincare industry alone – by which we mean just the skincare products, not even including skincare treatments – was worth $143.5 billion in 2022. And $20 billion of that comes from the US, making ours the biggest skincare market in the world.

Add to that all the skincare treatments, technology, and procedures that continue to be developed, and there’s no denying that the majority of us are in pursuit of the perfect skin.

BodyTonic med spa exists for this very reason: to help our customers in Cleveland achieve the skin they dream of, which we achieve by offering the very best and most advanced non-invasive beauty treatments, combined with expert care, incredible results, and an exceptional experience, to ensure everyone leaves our spa both feeling, and looking, amazing.

We could (and do, in our blog!) wax lyrical about all the different treatments and products that we offer, but in this post we’re just going to focus on one: the super-popular, skin-smoothing, brightening, and generally revitalizing treatment that is dermaplaning, and our favorite combos with this treatment to help you achieve your ultimate dream skin.

What is a dermaplane treatment?

Dermaplaning is a simple, safe, highly effective, and totally non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment.

It involves gently scraping the surface of your skin with a surgical-grade scalpel, which exfoliates the skin by removing dead skin cells while also removing all vellus hairs (also known as peach fuzz) – leaving you with an incredibly smooth, luminous, fresh-faced appearance.

While the idea of using a scalpel on your face may sound scary, we assure you it’s anything but. This treatment is completely safe, pain-free, gentle, fast, and wonderfully effective.

Dermaplaning benefits

In the meantime, here’s a summary of all the many reasons why dermaplaning is so popular:

  • Removes dead skin cells, effectively exfoliating the skin
  • Removes vellus hair, which can trap oil and dirt
  • Smoothens the skin and evens out skin tone and texture
  • Triggers natural skin regeneration and promotes collagen production
  • Results in a brighter, more radiant, and luminous complexion
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and other surface imperfections
  • Improves the skin’s absorption of skincare products enabling deeper penetration
  • Enables make-up to go on more smoothly
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • Completely pain-free
  • Completely non-invasive
  • Fast (typically about 30 minutes), with zero downtime or healing required
  • Immediate results

And if that list isn’t exhaustive enough, the final benefit of dermaplaning is that it combines brilliantly with several other treatments, meaning you can maximize the results of both your dermaplane treatment and whichever others you combine it with…

Dermaplane with jelly mask and LED light therapy

One of our most popular treatment combos is dermaplaning + jelly mask + LED light therapy.

Jelly masks have become one of the latest crazes in the beauty world, and for good reason – they are cooling and soothing, rebalance the skin’s pH, restore moisture levels, and are packed with powerful skincare nutrients tailored to target a range of specific skincare concerns.

The jelly mask consists of a jelly-like substance that is boosted with electrolyte technology, pure algae, and skin-boosting active ingredients. Once applied to the face, it slowly sets, creating a unique type of vacuum seal that allows your skin to fully absorb all the nutrients, and then peels off to reveal a glowing and nourished complexion with reduced fine lines, more even skin tone, and reduced redness.

LED light therapy is another popular treatment that is commonly used to treat a wide range of skin issues including wrinkles, sun damage, eczema, acne, and much more. It involves the use of different wavelengths – which correspond to different visible colors (e.g. red light / blue light) – to penetrate the skin at different depths. LED light therapy is usually used in combination with other treatments, such as facials, to enhance their effectiveness.

By combining all three of these treatments, the maximum efficacy of each is drawn out. The dermaplaning treatment is done first, creating the perfect base on which to place the jelly mask as the freshly exfoliated skin can deeply absorb all the mask’s nutrients. The LED light therapy then further enhances the skin’s responsiveness to the mask as well as further boosting the body’s natural rejuvenation processes.

The result? A gentle, soothing, and highly enjoyable treatment from which you’ll walk away with smooth, rejuvenated, hydrated, glowing skin that will be the envy of everyone you see.

Other great dermaplaning combo treatments

Because it’s a gentle non-invasive procedure with zero downtime, and because it perfectly primes the skin by removing vellus hairs and dead skin cells and enabling deeper absorption of topicals, dermaplaning is a treatment that combines well with a wide range of other treatments.

Some of our other favorite, highly effective dermaplaning combo treatments are:

Dermaplane FAQs and myths

Does dermaplaning hurt?

Not at all. One of the many dermaplaning benefits is that it’s totally painless. It’s comparable to the sensation of shaving your legs, but using a far more precise and sharper blade – which is why it’s vital to have it done by a professional.

Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?

No. This is a myth. The hair follicle isn’t impacted at all by shaving, so it’s impossible for the consistency of the hair to change. Other body hair is thicker and coarser than vellus hair, and shaving gives the hair a blunt tip, which can sometimes make it appear more noticeable as it regrows. Because vellus hair is much softer and finer, and because a much sharper blade is used than a standard razor, this isn’t the case with dermaplaning, so there’s no risk of darker hair or any kind of stubble!

Is there any downtime after a dermaplane treatment?

No, you can walk straight out of the appointment and carry on with your day – another of the top dermaplaning benefits! You may experience a little redness for an hour or so, but if you combine dermaplaning with a jelly mask and LED this will be vastly reduced thanks to the soothing properties of the mask.
