While there are a lot of things to enjoy about getting older, it’s safe to say that most of us don’t love the impact age has on our appearance.

Lines, wrinkles, and volume loss in the face are the main signs of aging we all want to fight, and thankfully there are plenty of tools now at our disposal to do so!

Injectables are by far one of the most popular ways to maintain a younger appearance, and of all those available, more and more people are opting for Radiesse to correct facial volume loss and minimize the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles.

Radiesse is a unique type of dermal filler, also known as a volumizing filler, and it’s a firm favorite with both men and women across America due to its immediate and long-lasting results in smoothing, revitalizing, and rejuvenating the skin.
If you live in the Cleveland area, come and see us at BodyTonic Med Spa to find out more about how Radiesse could make you look years younger. Or if you want to learn more about this popular treatment first, keep reading…

What is Radiesse

Radiesse is a unique type of FDA-approved dermal filler that is known for its excellent results in restoring facial volume loss and smoothing out lines and wrinkles, to leave an overall refreshed, more youthful appearance.

It’s unique because it’s the only filler available that gives both immediate results and long-lasting improvement – immediately restoring volume and providing a natural lift, while also stimulating collagen production to generate longer-lasting results over time.

Radiesse is mostly used for restoring facial volume loss and addressing moderate to severe lines on the face, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. However, it’s also commonly used for correcting volume loss to the back of the hands – another part of the body that can be quick to show signs of aging, and which Radiesse addresses in a wonderfully natural and long-lasting way.

How does Radiesse work?

Radiesse corrects facial volume loss and minimizes lines and wrinkles due to its unique composition, which works by stimulating collagen growth as well as providing instant volume.

Unlike traditional fillers, which are typically made using hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is composed of something called calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres, which are suspended in a gel carrier.

This unique formula works in two ways:

  1. The gel carrier provides immediate (temporary) volume and correction.
  2. The calcium-based microspheres act as a sort of scaffold under the skin, both stimulating natural collagen production and providing a structure for the collagen to build around.

Over time, the gel carrier and microspheres are absorbed into the body, meaning the initial volume enjoyed immediately after the treatment starts to dissipate. However, the newly created collagen – which continues to develop for several months after the initial injection – remains in place, giving a longer-lasting and natural result that lasts well beyond the initial volumizing filler effect of the treatment.

What areas does Radiesse treat?

Radiesse can effectively improve the appearance of many typical problem areas that come with aging.

It’s mostly used to correct signs of aging on the lower parts of the face and the back of the hands, but Radiesse is particularly effective at treating nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other deep facial lines, and for correcting facial volume loss.

Radiesse for the face:

Sometimes referred to as a “liquid facelift,” it can restore volume in areas where collagen production has slowed due to the aging process. This includes lifting, filling, and augmenting the cheeks, temples, chin, and jowl area.
Radiesse can also be injected more superficially to fill in lines, wrinkles, and other depressions in the skin, including acne scars, nasolabial folds (a.k.a smile lines), marionette lines, upper lip lines, chin creases, and more.

Radiesse for the hands:

Radiesse is also FDA-approved for correcting volume loss on the back of the hands. It provides instant and noticeable results by restoring volume and minimizing the visibility of veins and tendons, leaving hands with a smooth, natural-looking, rejuvenated appearance.

What are the benefits of Radiesse?

There are many reasons why Radiesse is a great choice for people wanting to slow down the signs of aging:

  • Significantly improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and addresses the loss of volume in the face and hands
  • Immediate results that last for up to two years following treatment
  • Produces noticeable yet natural rejuvenating and skin-smoothing results
  • The only filler available that provides both immediate and longer-term results
  • Stimulates natural collagen production
  • Proven results with excellent patient satisfaction
  • FDA-approved volumizing filler
  • Also FDA-approved to mix with lidocaine, an anesthetic, to reduce any discomfort during treatment
  • Minimally invasive, with next to no downtime
  • Quick 30-minute “lunchbreak” procedure

Radiesse vs other dermal fillers

There are several different types of dermal filler available, all of which have their specific benefits and/or uses.

Traditional dermal fillers

Most traditional dermal fillers, such as Juvederm, are made from hyaluronic acid (HA).

These fillers are excellent choices for temporarily restoring volume and augmenting facial features. Like Radiesse, results from traditional fillers are instant – although they only last around six months, rather than the 18-24 months that Radiesse usually lasts.

The main difference is that Juvederm and other hyaluronic acid fillers don’t stimulate collagen production and so don’t have any additional longer-lasting impact. However, this makes them more suited to certain augmentations such as creating a fuller lip or reshaping the nose.

Sculptra

Sculptra is another type of volumizing filler that has many similarities with Radiesse

Sculptra is made from a substance called poly-L-lactic acid, which is the same material used in surgical stitches.

Like Radiesse, Sculptra works by stimulating natural collagen production, and is used to restore lost volume to the face and other parts of the body, as well as fill out wrinkles and lines and improve overall skin texture. However, unlike Radiesse, Sculptra doesn’t have an immediate effect. The results all come over the course of a few months, as the new collagen gradually builds.

Radiesse is unique in its ability to produce instantaneous results as well as longer-lasting collagen production, and as a result it’s one of the most popular dermal fillers for targeting some of the most common aesthetic concerns linked to aging.

However, different injectables and dermal fillers all have their benefits, so there’s no “one best” type of filler – it will all depend on exactly what you want to achieve, and your practitioner will be able to recommend the best type of filler to suit your needs and skin goals.
